Office 365: Cloud-Hosted Microsoft Online Services and BPOS

Office 365 offers the latest in productivity in a cloud-hosted environment from Microsoft Online Services. Sharing some of the offerings of the popular Business Productivity Online Standard Suite (BPOS), Office 365 introduces the resources users have been asking for in a cloud SaaS model with flexible pay-as-you-go, per-user licensing.

The beta release for Office 365 includes Office Professional Plus services such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, in addition to productivity tools such as SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, and Lync (Office Communications Online).

Office 365 Release

The Office 365 suite of services will be offered in the Microsoft cloud powered by Windows Azure servers. Office 365 will be available for purchase in 2011 and is available in beta release format by request from Microsoft.

What is Office 365 in the Cloud?

Microsoft Office 365 enables businesses of all sizes to harness the power of cloud productivity with anywhere access through Software as a Service (SaaS) monthly subscriptions, saving time and money while freeing up resources.

The familiar interface of Office 365 SaaS offers the same user-friendly design as the Microsoft Office desktop suite that includes the online versions of Microsoft’s next-generation communications and collaboration services: Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Lync Online (Office Communications Online). Office 365 SaaS services are easy for business users to administer and include Microsoft-level security with the reliability and uptime businesses need to ensure continuity.

Office 365 Changes for Microsoft Online Services

The release of Office 365 in 2011 introduces new online services and capabilities to the Microsoft cloud-hosted environment of Microsoft Online Services. In addition to improving user experience with 2010 server software, the Microsoft Online Services datacenters will now include major new service and platform investments. While the name has changed from BPOS, the service offerings still hold but with additional improvements and the inclusion of new offerings. BPOS and Microsoft Online Service subscribers still are subscribed to the same service, but now the software and databases have been significantly enhanced. Office 365 cloud-hosted services provides many more features and functionality when you make the transition.

Microsoft Office 365 will be available in 2011 as a part of an expansion of Microsoft Online Services offerings. In addition to more business-class features, businesses will still have the efficiency of cloud control and reliability from Microsoft Azure-powered cloud servers.
